Travelling to Turku


Please note that currently due to Covid-19, many travel connections are still on hold or only opening up. Information regarding possible travel options and the prices may not be fully up-to-date and accurate for November 2021. Please be patient, more options will become available during Summer/Autumn 2021.


By air: You can fly directly to Turku Airport. Turku airport is served by Finnair (via Helsinki), SAS (via Stockholm-Arlanda), AirBaltic (via Riga) and WizzAir. Alternatively, you can fly to Helsinki Airport.

By ferry: You can travel to Turku by ferry from Stockholm. There is an option of an overnight ferry.

Turku airport: Turku airport is located approx. 7 km from the centre of Turku. Bus from the airport: It is possible to take bus No. 1 directly from Turku Airport to city center, which leaves each 20 minutes. The bus No 1 stops also across the street from the conference hotel Radisson Blu Marina Place and only 300 m from Solo Sokos Hotel Turun Seurahuone, The same bus goes also to Turku harbour (to and from the ferry). The bus ticket costs EUR 3 during until 11 pm and 4 EUR during late hours. Taxi from the airport: Taxis are usually available outside the airport. If not, you can call one. The cost is approx. 25 EUR to the city centre.

Helsinki-Vantaa airport:

Helsinki-Vantaa airport is in Helsinki, and there are train and bus connections to Turku.

  • Train: Take the Ring Rail Line from the airport to Helsinki/Pasila station or Helsinki Main railway station, and change to a train to Turku. The Ring Rail Line trains run between the airport and Helsinki at ten-minute intervals at peak hours and the trip takes about 20 minutes. Trains to Turku depart about every hour (between 5 am and 9pm). The trip to Turku from the Helsinki-Pasila station takes about 2 hours. Further information: www.vr.fi/en
  • Bus connection: You can take a direct bus from airport to Turku, which will take approx. 2,5 hours. https://www.matkahuolto.fi/en

Weather

Weather in Turku in November will be ideal … for working and discussing our research inside! The average length of the day is 7.4h and UV index is 0 (no need to bring your sunglasses!). The average high-temperature is 3C, while the average low-temperature is -1.6C. There is a strong risk of rain (with some luck, it can also be snow). Indoor heating is however well-functioning in all indoor premises in Finland.
